Broward County, Florida Slashes Physical Education in Schools

For budgetary reasons physical eduction has been slashed from school curriculum in many of the Broward County, Florida schools. See Sun-Sentinel article titled At least 120 Broward public schools slash elective programs. The reason given for this action was to save money. I understand that we have budgetary issues to deal with. However, we have a health crisis in our country and we are laying the groundwork for our children to lead unhealthy lifestyles.

Slashing the PE programs is not an option. We need an immediate interim alternative which can be accomplished by establishing a volunteer corps of certified fitness instructors in our communities who are willing to donate their time to keep our children healthy. I am working on a ten point program to present for immediate implementation. I will do whatever I can.

We cannot treat our children this way.
